Commitment to Platinum Open Access (No Fees or APCs)
Full Fee Waiver – Currently Active
Periódico Tchê Química currently offers a full fee waiver for an indefinite period to all authors. Since August 2023, we have operated under the Platinum Open Access model, ensuring free access to reading and free publication for all research. This policy eliminates financial barriers for both authors and readers, promoting equitable global sharing of scientific knowledge.
The Platinum Open Access model adopted by Periódico Tchê Química exemplifies our unwavering dedication to barrier-free dissemination and accessibility of scientific knowledge. Through this progressive approach, we ensure that our broad spectrum of scientific contributions becomes freely available to a global audience, eliminating any subscription or publication fees.
Important: Our rigorous double-blind peer review process remains fully intact, meticulously maintaining the eminence and integrity of our publications. There are no Article Processing Charges (APCs) or mandatory fees of any kind.
Financial Sustainability Model
Core Principles
To sustain this model, Periódico Tchê Química operates through a simple and transparent funding approach based on institutional partnerships, voluntary donations, and optional services. Core principles include:
- Institutional Support: Collaborations with universities and research organizations are publicly acknowledged, with no influence on editorial decisions.
- Individual Contributions (Conflict Management): Donations from the scientific community are welcome but subject to strict ethical guidelines. Authors must wait 6 months after publication to contribute, ensuring editorial independence. Anonymous donations are prohibited. No donations are accepted for manuscripts under review.
- Transparency: All financial flows, including service contributions and donations, are detailed in annual reports. Funds support platform maintenance, peer review management, and digital preservation.
Editorial and Financial Independence
Our Position on Public Funding
Periódico Tchê Química is an independent publication and operates without receiving or requesting government funding for its activities or goals. This decision is grounded in clear ethical principles:
- Direct Responsibility: We believe that the costs of scientific publishing, when necessary, should be borne by the professionals who directly benefit from publications and their research institutions.
- Fiscal Equity: Accepting government funds derived from Brazilian taxpayers would constitute an advance and compulsory charge on the publication of any manuscript. We do not consider it morally appropriate for all citizens to compulsorily pay for research that directly benefits only a segment of the population.
- Editorial Autonomy: Financial independence from government ensures full editorial freedom and shields us from political or bureaucratic pressures on our scientific decisions.
Future Fee Policy – Full Transparency
When Fees May Be Implemented
While we currently operate with full fee exemption, we recognize that the journal’s financial sustainability is directly tied to editorial workload volume. Should fee implementation become necessary in the future, this decision will be based on objective and transparent criteria:
Determining Factor: Manuscript Volume
- Low Volume (a few dozen manuscripts/year): No fees are required. Volunteer editorial work and donations are sufficient to maintain operations.
- High Volume (hundreds or thousands of manuscripts/year): Implementation of Article Processing Charges (APCs)
may become necessary to ensure the journal’s financial viability, guaranteeing resources for:
- Adequate technological infrastructure
- Professional manuscript management system
- Expanded editorial support
- Long-term digital preservation
- Indexing and visibility services
Transparency Commitment
Any fee implementation will be clearly and transparently declared on this page with a minimum advance notice of 6 months. The introduction of fees will be communicated to the entire scientific community through multiple channels, including:
- Clear notice on the journal website
- Email notification to registered authors
- Explanatory editorial in the issue prior to implementation
- Complete breakdown of fees and justifications
