Reviewer Guidelines

Ethical and technical guidance for peer review

Peer review is a cornerstone of scientific quality and editorial integrity at Periódico Tchê Química. Your role as a reviewer is essential not only to assess the scientific validity of manuscripts but also to guide authors in improving their work.

Conflicts of Interest

If you identify any potential conflict of interest, please notify the editorial team immediately (journal.tq@gmail.com). The manuscript will be reassigned to another reviewer.

Conflicts of interest may include:

  • Personal conflict: relationships with authors, institutions, or professional networks that could compromise impartiality—even if authors are anonymized, identity may be recognizable from context, writing style, or content.
  • Financial conflict: ties to companies, products, or organizations mentioned in the manuscript (e.g., stock ownership, consultancy, sponsorship).
  • Intellectual conflict: strong ideological alignment or opposition to the topic that could hinder objective evaluation.

We recommend consulting the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers, which provide standards for responsible and fair conduct.

Review Content

  • Focus on scientific quality: originality, methodology, clarity, relevance, and ethical rigor.
  • Evaluate whether the manuscript reflects the "state of the science" and presents practical application in its field.
  • Check the currency and appropriateness of references (preferably within the last 10 years) and whether primary sources are cited.
  • Plagiarism is screened by the editorial office before review (using specialized software), but if you notice inappropriate overlap, please report it immediately.
  • Do not evaluate formatting, grammar, or style—these are handled by the editorial team after acceptance.

How to Structure Your Comments

  • If recommending revision, provide clear, specific, and actionable suggestions.
  • If recommending rejection, justify based on substantial flaws (e.g., inadequate methodology, unsupported conclusions, scope outside the journal’s aims).
  • Avoid spending time on manuscripts clearly below the journal’s standards.

Tone of the Review

  • Be respectful, constructive, and encouraging.
  • Begin with the manuscript’s strengths.
  • Avoid judgmental language, sarcasm, or personal criticism.

Confidentiality

ATTENTION: All manuscripts and review comments are confidential and the exclusive property of Periódico Tchê Química. Do not share the content under any circumstances.

  • Manuscripts must be treated as confidential material.
  • If you wish to consult a colleague, obtain prior authorization from the editorial team.
  • We recommend keeping a copy of your review for up to three months.

Editorial Process

All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Reports are sent to authors anonymously.

Revised manuscripts: Authors have up to 3 months to submit the revised version, accompanied by a detailed response to reviewers’ comments.

Final version: After evaluation, editors notify authors of acceptance or rejection. Minor style or formatting corrections may be made by the editorial office, always preserving the scientific content.
